Dry Skin Cause – How To Get Rid Of Dry Skin

Skin is a first line of defense and a protective shield for our body, to stop the attacks of warriors such as infection and bacteria. Having a dry and flaky skin not only put negative impact on our personality but also may lead to some serious skin problems.

So Why Does It Happen?

Insufficient amount of water in the outer layer, ”Epidermis” of our skin, may cause Dry skin or   ”Xeroderma”. This is a most common skin condition which may affect men and women both and in all age groups. Older ones are considered to be at more risk due to the lack of natural skin oils and lubricants. Lasts temporarily for few days or weeks (Normally), but it may become more severe and long-term sometimes. Treatable in most of the cases though.

To figure out that you actually are having dry skin problem, you just have to look around the patchy areas on your body like back, arms, sides of the abdomen, thighs, waist and legs (particularly lower legs).

Have You Got Dry Skin Problem?

Symptoms of dry skin may vary person to person, depends upon your age, health, weather, genetics or
family history, location and how much time you remain outdoor. The Chances of having this disorder is even higher in winter season and dry climates.

  • The most common symptom of dry skin is itchiness
  • Rough skin or tightness after bathing/showering and swimming
  • Red patches on skin
  • Gray ashy skin in peoples with dark complexion
  • Scaling or epidermis(loss of upper layer of skin)
  • Wrinkles and red scratches

Major Causes of Dry Skin

  • As we have already seen that the winter season is the number one cause of dry skin. Due to humidity in air the water of our body evaporates more quickly and makes our skin dry and flaky
  • Steamy and hot showers(for a longer time) may be relaxing for everyone, but it is not good for our skin as it strips out our body’s natural moisture
  • We use heaters(or central heating system) to keep ourselves warm in cold weathers, but this heat may dry out our skin as the warmer air dries our skin’s most faster
  • Most of us do not drink enough water in winters which dehydrates our skin
  • Chemical based soap(with deodorant ) and detergents, is “like a wash and drain”, means when you wash your body you drain out all moisture and skin’s protective oils
  • Due to hormonal changes in our body, as we grow older our skin becomes parched and thin
  • As our mothers teach us to wash your hands frequently but for dry skin doesn’t suit you, because excessive hand wash may crack or dry our skin
  • Avoid Uncomfortable clothing, no matter how handsome/beautiful you are looking in a sweater. If it is causing itching or irritation, better to not wear
  • Medical conditions, like psoriasis, diabetes and eczema etc.
  • Use sharp blade for shaving and shave to the direction of your hair growth to protect your skin from irritation
